Of is ek nou dom?

Capture images with impressive tonal detail in any situation when you shoot in HDR mode. The camera combines two shots taken at different exposures during a single shutter release to create an image with wide dynamic range and rich color gradation.

Buzz makes a good point about the user interface.  We had a Nikon years ago with the most awful menu & button system.  Got a Canon G9 & it has really simple and logical menu system - then a G10 which added an extra knob for the over/under exposure so you did not even have to go to the menu to use it; a function I use a lot.  Surely Nikon has revised their menu system since the one we had.

Praat ons van die selfde ding? Scratch

There is a thread of HDR pictures on WD.  Not the original thread about them that I was looking for.  http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/index.php?topic=98882.0

For the inside of cars it will work really well as it will penetrate into the shade.
For landscapes etc 1 picture looks ok to me but a thread of them like the link they look absolutely characterless, flat, boring, artificial, manipulated, cartoonish and devoid of any artistic merit. Comic book pictures.

This is absolutely terrible!

Surely this picture must be manipulated afterwards also?

And the function can be turned off?

There are 2 ways of doing HDR it seems.  In camera where you select it & the camera then takes 2 pictures & combins them to give you the HDR.
The

Here is another short thread with terrible HDR pictures http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/index.php?topic=98551.0

The thread that I can't find on WD where the HDR had been done afterwards in software & typically 4 pictures are used gave some good results.  I emailed the Photobucket jpg address of some to my wife because she needs to record stuff in museums & the interior of houses & for that it is really useful.  The first picture is a landscape & it works really well.  He showed the individual pictures that were used & it was really interesting to see the overexposed one that showed the shadow detail on the underside of the branches but the sky was white & the underexposed one where all the shadow stuff was black but the sky was fine. This style HDR works much better but is extra work.  The pictures are not grainy & overexposed like they seem to be from the in camera version.
